Dust off your skates and head to the rink!

Marin Center presents Roller Disco Daze, a free community roller skating experience on Lagoon Island at the Marin County Fairgrounds. Running Wednesdays through Sundays, July 17 through August 16, the rink is open to all ages and skill levels, with themed nights every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to keep things lively all summer long. 

Skate beneath a disco ball surrounded by the lagoon, then cool down with lawn games, explore art installations by local artists on display, and don't miss the giant inflatable skate for the ultimate photo opp. A DJ spins on-site beginning at 12 pm every Friday-Sunday to keep the music on point and the vibes rolling. Food from Manny's Tacos will be on-site all days of the event, and Lobo's Ice Cream will be available July 17-19 and July 24-26.

Admission is free. Skate rentals and safety gear, including kids' sizes, are available on-site for $5. All skaters must sign a waiver; skaters under 18 require a parent or guardian signature.

Hours

Wednesday and Thursday: 12 pm to 8 pm
Friday through Sunday: 12 pm to 10 pm
Last entry to skate is 30 minutes before closing.

  • Sunday, August 9: Space Age — One Small Skate for Mankind

Week 5: Oh the Horror! (August 14-16)

  • Friday, August 14: Stop, Goth & Roll
  • Saturday, August 15: Zombie Night: Skate of the Dead
  • Sunday, August 16: A Scary Good Skate Night — wear your costume!
DJ will be on-site from 12 pm - close Friday through Sunday. 

Roller Disco Daze Waiver

  • Roller Disco Daze Waiver.pdf (0.10 MB) — To enter the skating rink, you must sign a waiver and get a wristband. If you are under 18, you will need a parent or legal guardian to sign the waiver for you. Those without wristbands will not be allowed into the rink.

Rules of the Rink

  1. Skate with the Flow: Always skate counterclockwise in the main direction of traffic, and avoid cutting across the floor.
  2. Control Your Speed: Faster skaters should stick to the outer lanes, while beginners and slower skaters use the inner lanes.
  3. Maintain Safety: No roughhousing, tagging, or fast weaving through the crowd.
  4. Clear the Floor: If you fall, get up as quickly as possible. Do not sit or hang out on the floor or the walls.
  5. Respect the Rink: No food, drinks, or gum are allowed on the wooden skate floor.
  6. Follow Instructions: The "Apostles" (the certified instructors and staff) are on the floor for everyone's safety. Listen to their directions regarding speed, direction, and rink etiquette.

Roller Disco Daze takes place on Lagoon Island at the Marin Center Fairgrounds, 20 Avenue of the Flags, San Rafael, CA 94903, on the Marin County Civic Center campus just off Highway 101.

We encourage visitors to leave their cars at home and take advantage of the many ways to get here!

By Bus

Marin Transit

Take Marin Transit Route 35 or Route 49, with nearby service on Routes 71 and 233. Visit marintransit.gov for routes, schedules, and real-time bus arrival information.

Golden Gate Transit (Regional)

Traveling from San Francisco or elsewhere in the Bay Area? Take Golden Gate Transit to the San Rafael Transit Center, then transfer to Marin Transit Route 35 or 49 to reach the fairgrounds. Visit goldengate.org for routes and schedules.

By Train

Ride the SMART train directly to Civic Center Station, just steps from the campus. Youth and older adults may qualify for free rides. Check sonomamarintrain.org for schedules and pricing.

By Bike

Free bicycle parking is available. Please bring your own lock and chain.

By Car

Free parking is available in the Veterans' Memorial Auditorium lot near the event. On Thursdays during the Farmers Market, parking moves to the Exhibit Hall lot down Avenue of the Flags.

From US-101 Northbound: Exit at Freitas Parkway, then turn right onto Civic Center Drive. The Marin Center is on your left.

From US-101 Southbound: Exit at Freitas Parkway and turn left. Turn left again, then right onto Civic Center Drive. The Marin Center is on your left.

Rideshare

Uber, Lyft, and other rideshare services can drop you off at the roundabout in the Veterans' Memorial Auditorium parking lot, near the entrance to the Island.

Yes! Admission to Roller Disco Daze is free for everyone.

Skate and safety gear rentals, including kids' sizes, are available on-site for $5 each. You're also welcome to bring your own skates, inline skates or safety gear. The following safety gear will be available to rent: helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist pads and skate trainers.

Everyone who plans to skate must sign a waiver and receive a wristband to enter the rink. Those under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign on their behalf. Those who do not have a wristband will not be let into the skating rink.

Themed nights run every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening. The DJ will play on-theme tunes to kick the full experience into gear. Check the theme schedule above to plan your costume. Please note that floor-length costumes or costume items will not be allowed in the rink. Thank you for keeping everyone safe!

Wednesday and Thursday, the rink closes at 8 pm. Friday through Sunday, it closes at 10 pm. Last entry to skate is 30 minutes before closing.

Lagoon Island is located on the Marin County Fairgrounds in San Rafael. If you've ever seen a headline concert at the Marin County Fair, it's where we host those!

Plenty! Lawn games, art installations by local artists, and a giant inflatable skate (perfect for photos) are all part of the fun. We'll also have Manny's Tacos food truck on site with picnic tables, and Lobo's Ice Cream will be available July 17-19 and July 24-26

Yes, free parking is available in the Veterans' Memorial Auditorium (VMA) parking lot. Please note that on Thursday mornings until about 2 PM, the Farmers Market will take over the VMA parking lot. There is additional parking down Avenue of the Flags in the Exhibit Hall parking lot.
